The Malfine Trilogy is set in the 1830s and features Lord Ambrose Malfine, a Byronic English aristocrat who has returned from fighting in the Greek War of Independence to his country estate - the mansion of Malfine. Here, scarred by his adventures and partly of foreign blood, he is shunned by his neighbours and lives in seclusion. But there are murders in the district - and he is called upon to act ... and falls in love with a mysterious governess.

Books featuring Cecile Galant

Death in the South of France is a tense and atmospheric story. Charlie Cashel, a young Englishman, and Cecile Galant, an examining magistrate in Cannes, embark on a search to find a serial killer who may also have murdered Charlie's half-sister. Death in the South of France was published by Allison & Busby in 2001.

Death at Versailles features an investigation into two mysteries. The first is a modern murder that takes place in the grounds of the Palace of Versailles. The second mystery, involving a trip back into the past, concerns two Victorian ladies who claimed to have seen the ghost of Marie Antoinette at Versaille in 1900. Unravelling these two linked problems takes Cecile on a visit to England.

In the third of the series, Death in Cognac, Cecile will be involved in mysterious murders in the brandy producing region of France.

In the Kingdom of Mists

Jane's latest historical novel is published by Transworld. It is set in 1900, during the visit of the painter Monet to the Savoy Hotel in London, and features a complex murder mystery. The book is beautifully illustrated in colour with twelve paintings by Monet and reviewers love it.

Kidder's Receipts

Jane has also edited Kidder's Receipts, a beautiful edition of an eighteenth century recipe book. Illustrated with Dutch still-life paintings, the book was published by the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in 2001.

Jaromir Malek is an Egyptologist. He has written a number of specialized books, articles, brief communications, and reviews, as well as contributions to encyclopaedias and similar works, and electronic publications specially prepared for the Internet. He has also published popular contributions and writes a web-based story for children about ancient Egypt. One of his duties at work is to look after Howard Carter's excavation records of the tomb of Tutankhamun, and so he hopes that the "curse of the Pharaoh" is but a myth without scientific foundations.
